Originally from Bexhill on Sea in East Sussex, I now live in Ilminster, Somerset with my husband Phil, our four dogs, six cats and three rabbits……yes, I’m a bit mad on animals! And I work as a ‘Somerset Funeral Celebrant.’
Becoming a Civil Funeral Celebrant was a choice I made after experiencing the loss of twins. Feeling abandoned by ‘religion’, thoughts of why would a ‘good god’ allow something so devastating to happen to us. It set me on a different track spiritually and, with time, I found peace within myself.
My father then died in 2012; he was a real character! Being non-religious, there was no way I could have a vicar conduct his service. He always believed that God would strike him down if he ever set foot in a church. So we found a ‘Celebrant’ to conduct his ceremony.
The ceremony was both moving and personal and we came away feeling uplifted and contented that we had ‘done our Dad proud’.
